Shaklee Review

Shaklee is a multi-level marketing (mlm) company that has been around since 1956. It was founded by Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee who in 1915 created “Vitalized Minerals”. They sell a wide range of products: supplements, weight loss, water filtration, beauty, and household supplies. I’ve done several reviews of their products already.  They recently have changed their weight loss products and came out with a new promotion to encourage people to sign up with the company.

They do have great products that work, the downside being that their products can initially be a bit more expensive than alternatives. Some products, such as the cleaning products, tend to be concentrated so a little goes a long way.  However people tend to use the same amount that they did of their normal products and go through the Shaklee products fast.  When the products are used under the “a little goes a long way” philosophy they can last a long time making them economical.

Like any multi-level marketing company they do encourage people to sign up for memberships to save money off retail price, or to go into business to make money for themselves.  Two common selling points for the products and for signing up with Shaklee are:

  • The products are naturally safe and proven effective, work, and are green.
  • The high quality of their products is a result of all the testing, and standards that they have.

There are in essence three membership levels:

  • No Membership: Pay the retail price for products. Can order through a distributor, a distributors personal website, or from the website as a guest.
  • Member: get 15% off all products. An additional 10% off select products purchased on AutoShip. Also get a New Member Pack. Costs $19.95 to join at this level. As of 1/31/2013 it is free with purchase of their Shaklee Vitalizer or one of the Shaklee 180 Kits. That could change at any time though.
  • Distributor: get 15% off all products. On select products with AutoShip get an additional 10% off. For a total of 25% off retail for select items. Costs $49.95 to join at this level. It also comes with a Business Kit, and access to an online business training and marketing area which includes a business center for tracking current PV Status, FastTrack and Bonus Status, Contacts, Email and Email Campaigns to contacts, Reports, Marketing Tools, Trackers and Incentives, Own Personal Website, and Datebook.
    • A sub group to the Distributor membership is a Gold Ambassador which comes with a sample of products and puts members on the fast track for earnings potential. The cost for this level is either $299 or $599. The difference in price:
      • The $299 level comes with fewer products and only three months of having a personal distributor website for free.
      • The $599 level comes with more products and six months free for the personal distributor website.
    • Another sub-category is signing up as a Shaklee 180 Specialist. The price levels are $49.95 with the kit that is included in this is focused on the Shaklee 180 weight loss products. There are two other levels: 180 Specialist Gold Plus for $599, and 180 Specialist Super Gold for $999. All of these kits are focused on marketing and selling the Shaklee 180 weight loss products.
    • For those who purchase the Shaklee Personal Websites to sell Shaklee products they are listed in the “find a distributor” feature.  This allows new distributors to “find a distributor” as their upline.

They highly suggest that people sign up at the Gold Ambassador. This can be seen in their promotional materials. Although at what level someone signs up with Shaklee depends on their goal. Right now the membership fees are a one time only fee. If you sign up as a Distributor and want to upgrade to a Gold Ambassador level then it costs an upgrade fee of $199 but you don’t get any of the products.

There are a variety of “bonus” opportunities that periodically change and comprise how to make money in Shaklee through bonuses, incentives, etc. Basically they recommend signing up as a Distributor or Gold Ambassador. Then find three people to sign up at the same level. Then find ten people to purchase the products. Once that is done, do it again.

As part of the launch of their re-designed and updated weight management system, that is now called Shaklee 180 Turnaround they are having a promotion. Purchase one of the Shaklee 180 kit and place it on AutoShip in a calendar month. Then have three members (excluding distributors and specialists) that you are on record as being the current sponsor for purchase the Shaklee 180 kits so that the total PV is three times the PV of your order.

For example:

I purchase the Shaklee 180 Turnaround Kit with a point value of 200 this month and put it on autoship. Then I find three people who I am on record as sponsoring who purchase one Turnaround Kit each for a total of 600 PV, I get the next months Shaklee 180 Turnaround Kit free.

Another option is if I purchase the Shaklee 180 Lean and Healthy Kit which has a point value of 100 and put it on autoship. I then find three people who purchase one kit each for a total of 300 point value then I get next months Shaklee 180 Lean and Healthy kit for free.

There are a few ways to join:

  1. Call Shaklee Customer Service and sign up over the phone. If you have the name and/or membership number of the distributor you want to be downline of you can give it to them at that time.
  2. Shop at and add the member pack to your cart. Right now there is the choice of getting a free membership with purchase of either the: Shaklee 180 Turnaround Kit, the Shaklee 180 Lean and Healthy Kit, or the Vitalizer pack.
  3. From a current Shaklee Distributors personal website join. That will add you as a downline to that distributor.
  4. Contact a Shaklee Distributor and give them your contact and credit card information for them to sign you up as a member.

Keep in mind when it comes to multi-level marketing companies: Every person that you know is a potential customer. Every person you come into contact with is a potential customer.
